The Redwood City Police Department arrested 19-year-old Brian Barbatajimaroa for driving towards a group of pedestrians on the 900 block of King Street while pursuing another vehicle whom he reported was involved in a hit-and-run-collision. The incident occurred at approximately 10 p.m. on March 1.
Barbatajimaroa, a Redwood City resident, reported the suspect vehicle to law enforcement before following the driver on their own. He continued to pursue the suspect despite repeated instructions from law enforcement to pull over and wait for officers to respond. During the pursuit, Barbatajimaroa was driving recklessly at excessive speeds and disregarding traffic signals, according to a Redwood City Police Department press release.
The driver of the suspect vehicle pulled over on King Street near a group of pedestrians when Barbatajimaroa drove towards the group, striking several individuals. At least two adults sustained serious injuries and were transported to the hospital, writes the press release.
Barbatajimaroa was arrested for four counts of assault with a deadly weapon and was booked into the San Mateo County Maguire Correctional Facility.
The Redwood City Police Department is asking community members to contact the police department with any information related to this case by calling its non-emergency number at 650-780-7100.
