Redwood City officers used a drone to help locate several juveniles who fled a public parking garage last week, ultimately recovering a loaded rifle magazine, drugs, and other contraband, authorities said.
Around 6:45 p.m. on Friday, private security officers reported a group of approximately 15 juveniles riding scooters and refusing to leave the parking structure at 750 Marshall Street, according to a statement Tuesday from the Redwood City Police Department.
Before officers arrived, the department deployed a drone to be able to see the scene from afar. As officers approached, several individuals were seen fleeing in multiple directions. Police said the drone helped locate suspects who would have otherwise escaped contact.
During the investigation, officers allegedly recovered a loaded 30-round rifle magazine, two shotgun shells, a digital scale, multiple plastic baggies, suspected cocaine and marijuana, and a quantity of cash.
Two juveniles, aged 17 and 14, were arrested on charges related to possession of contraband. They were later released to the San Mateo County Youth Services Center, police said.
