The application period is now open for those looking to fill the Redwood City School District Board of Trustees Area III seat, which will be vacant this winter following the Nov. 5 after no one pulled papers to run for it.

This comes after Janet Lawson, the current trustee for Area III, decided not to seek reelection, leaving the board responsible for appointing a new trustee.

Last week, at a board meeting, trustees approved opening the application period from Friday, August 30, through Monday, September 30.

Applicants must be at least 18 years old, a United States citizen, not employed by the district and live within the boundaries of Area III.

Trustee Area III includes Adelante Selby Spanish Immersion School, Henry Ford School, and Kennedy Middle School, as well as parts of the attendance zones for Garfield School, Henry Ford School, Hoover School, and Roosevelt School.

Once the application period closes, the board will interview the candidates at a public meeting on Oct. 9. The appointee will officially take their seat at the Dec. 17 board meeting.

Incumbent Trustee Mike Wells is running for reelection in Area IV, and Jennifer Ng Kwing King is seeking the Trustee Area I seat. Alisa McAvoy, the current trustee for Area I, is also not running for reelection.

More information about the application process can be found here.
