A new preschool expected to open this summer at Elco Yards in Redwood City will add child care space for up to 74 children, including infants, toddlers, preschoolers and transitional kindergarten students.
The city of Redwood City selected AbilityPath’s Learning Links Preschool as the child care operator for Elco Yards, a new mixed-use development that includes a purpose-built preschool, according to Karen Garcia French, AbilityPath’s marketing and communications manager.
The Learning Links center will be located at 200 Lathrop St. and is expected to operate from 7:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday, according to materials provided by Learning Links.
The center’s projected capacity includes nine infant slots, 12 toddler slots, 16 toddler slots, 15 young preschool slots and 22 preschool/TK slots, according to the materials.
Carol Miller, executive director of Learning Links, said the school will be open to community families, participate in the state-subsidized preschool program and enroll children with diagnoses such as autism or developmental delays.
Miller said the Redwood City center is expected to have about 16 subsidized California State Preschool Program slots, including 10 full-time and six part-time slots.

Tuition for full-time care will range from $2,540 a month for preschool/TK students to $3,595 a month for infants and toddlers, according to a fee sheet provided by Learning Links. Part-time care will be offered for junior preschool and preschool/TK students, with monthly rates ranging from $1,300 to $2,195, depending on the schedule.
The center will also accept subsidies, according to the fee sheet. Families will be charged a $50 waitlist fee, a $150 nonrefundable registration fee, a deposit equal to 50% of the first month’s tuition when a spot is reserved and a $150 annual equipment fee.
Learning Links says its preschool classrooms typically have one teacher for every eight children, though ratios may vary by location.
The program offers special education services, according to Learning Links. Service hours will be tailored to each child’s individual needs, according to the fee sheet.
The preschool uses a play-based curriculum that includes circle time, music and movement, language and literacy, math and STEM, social-emotional learning, sensory exploration, creative expression and outdoor learning, according to Learning Links.
