Getting your Trinity Audio player ready...

Good morning, Redwood City,

Today the San Mateo County Sheriff's Office will address the public about all the people transferred from the county jail to immigration officers over the last year. The annual TRUTH Forum is a requirement of any county that releases immigrants to ICE, a practice that is allowed but not required by SB 54, the California Values Act.

A rally denouncing this practice and calling on County Sheriff Carlos Bolanos to end jail-to-ICE transfers will take place virtually and in front of the Superior Court in Downtown Redwood City prior to the forum. San Mateo County released 26 immigrants to ICE in 2020, more than any other county in the Bay Area.

On a lighter note, there are lots of new developments in the works right now. Not only has the city announced plans to begin moving dirt on the Blomquist Extension along the waterfront north of 101, but updated designs are in for the big Sequoia Station redevelopment project. A new planning application was recently submitted for a seven-story office, residential and retail building at 1900 Broadway, and just last month plans were submitted for a five-story office and residential building at 1201 Main Street.

These are just a few of the developments coming to Redwood City in the near future, and they're a hot topic in public forums and city council meetings. What are your thoughts? We'd love to hear from you.

Don't forget to mark your calendars for the big Día de los Muertos celebration happening at Courthouse Square this Sunday, Nov. 7. More stories coming your way soon…

Signing off,

Leah
