The Redwood City Council on Monday will hear a staff report on the city's response to COVID-19.
The status update will provide information on the current state of the novel coronavirus. It is one of many topics the council will discuss on Monday.
During a study session, the public works department will give an overview of the city's sustainability efforts. In a staff report, the department lists those efforts, which include the "implementation of building electrification Reach COdes, the city's environmentally preferred purchasing policy and green infrastructure implementation," among others.
The study session will provide an update on the city's goals to reduce greenhouse gas emissions to 50 percent below 2005 levels and achieve carbon neutrality by 2045.
Other topics include:
- The council will make an appointment to the Library for a partial term.
- City staff will introduce the Mandatory Organic Waste Disposal Reduction Ordinance, which could require residents and businesses to comply with certain trash disposal conditions. Below are a few in no particular order of importance. '
- Single-family homes must have organics collection service and properly sort their materials.
- Businesses and multi-family buildings must have organics collection service and properly sort their
materials. - Businesses must supply, through their hauler, an adequate number of labeled, color-coded
containers for employees, contractors, tenants and customers, provide education to new tenants,
and provide access to the City to confirm compliance. - The largest commercial edible food generators (includes supermarkets, large groceries, food
service providers, distributors and wholesale food vendors) must divert edible food through a
written agreement with food recovery organizations and keep specified records by January 1,
2022. The City will delegate the authority to administer this program to the County of San Mateo
Office of Sustainability through a Memorandum of Understanding. - The right to inspect and enforce the requirements are contained in the Ordinance, as are penalties
for violations. - Vendors of paper products are required to meet specified recycled content requirements with
certification of such
- The council will hear a report on various committees, including those listed below:
- Utilities subcommittee
- Transportation/Mobility subcommittee
- Equity and Social Justice subcommittee
