A drenched Bay Area can look forward to a break in the rain this weekend, but not before several more days of showers and cold temperatures, according to the National Weather Service.

Forecasters said that some intermittent rain is possible in Redwood City starting Monday afternoon and continuing on and off through Wednesday afternoon. The chilly weather will remain throughout the Bay Area, with daytime highs in the low-50s and near-freezing temperatures in the early mornings.

Mild flooding is likely in areas where the ground is already saturated with water, the weather service said. In Redwood City, moderate winds are expected into Monday night, with gusts reaching up to 25 miles per hour.

In higher elevations, which saw an unusually white Christmas, snow levels will fall to roughly 1,500 feet on Monday night before rising to around 3,000 feet Tuesday morning.

Meteorologists predict clear, sunny skies on Friday and Saturday, New Year’s Day, with rain back in the forecast for early next week.
