Investigators with the San Mateo County Sheriff's Office have arrested a Texas man they said illegally sold a rental pickup truck for $31,000 in Redwood City, according to a county news release.
The man is alleged to have sold the 2021 GMC Denali pickup truck to a San Jose resident using a forged vehicle title and a fake South Carolina driver's license earlier this week, the release said.
Law enforcement officials also allege that the Texas man was attempting to sell another stolen rental vehicle online. According to the news release, investigators were able to locate him in San Jose, where he was in possession of another stolen vehicle.
The man is a parolee-at-large from Texas, investigators said.
The sheriff's office said it believes incidents such as this to be a part of "a burgeoning trend within the greater Bay Area."
