Good morning, Redwood City!

Last night Mayor Giselle Hale delivered the State of the City address.

Hale opened the address by saying she is often asked, “Why are there so many homeless encampments? It’s unsightly. Doesn’t anyone care?”

That was followed by a 45-minute, pre-recorded video in which Hale, along with Vice Mayor Reddy and several other city officials, spoke exclusively about the issues of housing and homelessness in Redwood City. They covered everything from the history of redlining and gentrification to ongoing efforts at the city and county level to create more affordable housing and help transition people into stable shelter.

Several members of the community, including outreach workers and formerly homeless individuals, also shared their experiences. We've got more on that to come.

For now, don't miss our deeply reported story on the recent, high-profile encampment fires and clean-ups, which have been happening around the city.

Stay tuned for more, and happy Tuesday!

Leah
