Getting your Trinity Audio player ready...

Good morning, Redwood City!

There's an app for that

Looking for more real-time information about important local news and events? San Mateo County just announced that it will start using an app called "Simplicity" to deliver updates directly to residents' phones.

County Manager Mike Callagy said he encourages all residents "to sign up through their city of residence and follow the County so that we can all be better connected through a trusted channel.”

Users will get access to health updates, public safety information, school news and upcoming local events. There are plans to add Spanish translation, a pet directory and community funds as well. I just downloaded the app to my phone and am interested to see how it works—and what you all think about it.

From the crime files

This week our crime blogger writes about what he calls "one of the saddest crimes" he's ever investigated. He wonders: Was this a "mercy killing" or a case of murder?

Up to you to decide…

We have more stories coming for you today. Stay tuned, and happy Thursday!

Cheers,

Leah
