San Mateo County Human Trafficking Program is hosting a free virtual screening of a documentary that "brings validity to the truth that males are victimized too," according to a flyer from the event.
The documentary, Boys, is scheduled for a showing next Thursday at 6:30 p.m. The film will show how males "have largely been overlooked in human trafficking awareness efforts," according to the organizers.
In 2020, law enforcement identified between 282 to 306 human trafficking victims with a nexus to San Mateo County or about 23 victims a month, according to a report by the San Mateo Human Trafficking Program. The victims included minors and adults; and labor and sex-trafficking victims. It's unclear how many were male.
This free virtual film screening series is hosted and underwritten by the San Mateo County Human Trafficking Program, BraveMaker, Bay Area Anti-Trafficking Coalition, Dignity Health Sequoia Hospital, and the South Bay Coalition to End Human Trafficking.
