Redwood City firefighters are investigating the cause of a fire that left much of a trailer in the driveway of a home on Union Avenue in ashes Thursday morning.
Two firefighters sustained minor injuries attempting to extinguish the blaze and were transported to the nearby Kaiser hospital, according to Redwood City Deputy Chief Greg DaCunha. One rolled an ankle and the other had a possible knee injury, he said.
Firefighters responded to the call of a reported structure fire at the 1500 block of Union Avenue around 10 a.m. Thursday. According to DaCunha, 24 units from nearby fire districts, including from the jurisdictions of Redwood City, Menlo Park and Woodside provided mutual aid.
The fire, which "totally consumed" the trailer, extended into a nearby RV/camper, DaCunha said. The fire did not make it to the house nor the garage, he said, adding that the fire likely started in the trailer. It was unclear whether residents were home at the time of the fire.
Passersby reported seeing multiple fire trucks, police officers and smoke surrounding a residential area west of Woodside Road. A video taken by a resident shows at least two firefighters hosing down what appears to be a mobile home on fire, with other personnel standing by.
