Union Cemetery has been commemorating Decoration Day, as it was initially called, since 1889. The event will provide an opportunity for the community to honor America's veterans.

The ceremony begins at 10 a.m., and it will include several speakers, including the keynote speaker San Mateo County's District Attorney Steve Wagstaffe.

The event will also include traditional patriotic music and the firing on the anvil to complete the ceremony. The event will last an hour.

The Civil War-era cemetery is located off Woodside Road. Parking near the cemetery is limited, so attendees are encouraged to carpool or bike.

After the ceremony, attendees can also tour the cemetery. Redwood City's Union Cemetery is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

  1. As always, it was a worthwhile and important event.

It was, however, on Memorial Day, Sunday, May 27th — not Thursday, May 30th.
