In the wake of the Uvalde massacre that left 19 children and two teachers dead, a group of anti-gun violence activists is rallying on Saturday in Redwood City.

A march is scheduled to begin at 9 a.m, and a rally begins at 9:45 a.m. in front of the downtown library. The event will go through 11 a.m. The march will start at the library and loop around past Zareen’s near Broadway and Main Street before returning to the library.

Local musician Kira Hooks will lend her vocals to the cause and San Carlos Council Member Laura Parmer-Lohan is also scheduled to speak.

On Tuesday, May 24, a gunman opened fire at Robb Elementary School and killed 21 people with an assault weapon. The incident has drawn criticism from anti-gun activists for what some call lax federal gun laws and has renewed efforts by Democrats to establish more stringent gun control measures, including universal background checks.

Saturday’s march is part of a nationwide event sponsored by March for Our Lives, the organization founded by the survivors of the Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School shooting where 17 people died. March for Our Lives Sequoia Union and San José are co-organizers of the Redwood City march. The organizers for the March for Our Lives Sequoia Union and San Jose chapter are Sequoia Union High School students and they include Christopher Kwok, Nicholas Kwok, and Nicholas Lawrence.
