New leadership is taking the reins at Redwood City’s branch of a century-old veterans organization.

Starting July 1, the American Legion Post 105 will officially have a new executive board, according to Web Editor Michael Toschak. This is the 103rd board since the Legion was established in October 1919.

The new members include: Commander George Smith, 1st Vice Commander Thomas Day, 2nd Vice Commander Leo McArdle, 3rd Vice Commander William Jackson Jr., Finance Officer Vern Mull and Sgt. at Arms Alan Rosenmiller. Executive Board Members at Large include: Chester Palesoo Sr., John Robinson, Stan Maupin, Alan Rosenmiller, William Jackson Jr. and Michael Toschak.

Founded in the wake of World War I to support veterans and their communities, the Legion has since grown to include nearly 2 million members in over 13,000 posts around the world.

On Independence Day this Monday, the American Legion Post 105 will host a BBQ outside its hall, said Comdr. George Smith. All are welcome, he said.
