Getting your Trinity Audio player ready...

Good morning, Redwood City!

No more movie theater

If you (like me) grew up going to the Century Park 12, you’ve long since said your goodbyes to that good ol’ movie theater by the bay. Perhaps you’ve also wondered—what’s to become of the crumbling, abandoned lot? The answer: a mixed-use residential and fitness center at 557 E Bayshore Rd.

On Tuesday, the city Planning Commission met for a first public hearing on the just-published draft environmental impact report for the proposed development. Among the concerns discussed were sea level rise, traffic and air quality.

Though the session was focused on environmental impacts, several residents voiced their skepticism around the need for a new fitness center. As one said: “We have a lack of affordable housing. I don’t know if we have a lack of fitness centers.”

The draft enviro report is open to public comment through September 26.

Stay cool, and enjoy your Thursday.
