Good morning, Redwood City!

House the people

Coming up with a comprehensive, realistic and ambitious plan to tackle all of Redwood City’s current and future housing needs is no easy task. Already the city has spent months, if not more, working on a blueprint for this multi-year plan—also known as the housing element—including stakeholder meetings, public outreach and several drafts.

In April the city became the first in the county to submit its first draft housing element to the California Department of Housing and Community Development. That draft was rejected in July, in a letter from the state that included over 10 pages of required revisions. Earlier this month, after several weeks of public comment and revisions, Redwood City became the first in the larger nine-county region of the Bay Area to submit its second draft—one the city hopes may be nearly final.

This new version aims to build more affordable housing on a shorter timeline.
