Good morning, Redwood City!

Festival of lights

Monday marks the beginning of Diwali, a five-day Indian Festival of Lights celebrated widely by Hindus, Jains, Sikhs, among others. In addition to hanging lights and preparing special food, this is a time for community connection and spiritual renewal, writes Emily Margaretten in the Palo Alto Weekly.

There are several ways to celebrate Diwali in Redwood City next week, including:

Diwali Storytime and Dance Workshop

  • Wed., Oct. 26 from 6-7 p.m.
  • Redwood Shores Branch Library

Diwali Storytime and Dance Workshop

  • Thurs., Oct. 27 from 6-7 p.m.
  • Redwood City Main Library

Additionally, many local Indian eateries, such as Broadway Masala and Zareen’s on Broadway, have Diwali specials for the holiday. Kasa Indian Eatery is offering catering and Diwali Celebration Boxes—kits containing diyas, sparklers, mithai, rangolis and other special items for a full, make-your-own celebration.
