Good morning, Redwood City!
No guns, for now
Last night the city council voted unanimously to pass an urgency ordinance temporarily banning gun retail in Redwood City.
The vote came after nearly an hour of public comment, during which 25 members of the public spoke in fervent support or opposition of the ordinance. It was a pretty event split: Roughly 12 people were strongly against the gun retail moratorium, which many viewed as an infringement upon their Second Amendment rights. The other half seemed most concerned about the proximity of one of the proposed businesses to nearby schools.
In the end, the council discussion was relatively brief, and the vote was unanimous: Gun retail isn't coming into Redwood City without careful study and regulation. Story on that to come—for now, here’s a thread with some highlights from last night.
Vote, vote, vote
Yesterday was the last day to register to vote, but if you missed the deadline don’t panic. You can still vote under “Conditional Voter Registration” from now through Election Day. (Details on that on the county’s site here.)
