Good afternoon, Redwood City!
Every vote counts
Ballots from all voting centers and roughly 60% of those received by mail have been counted so far, with voter turnout just over 28% in San Mateo County. Thousands of ballots are still being counted, and more are expected to arrive over the coming days, according to County Asst. Chief Elections Officer Jim Irizarry.
For that reason, it’s no surprise that most candidates are holding off on making any concessionary or victory speeches. Things can change quickly in elections, as we know well!
As Sathvik Nori, the college student who’s on track to become the youngest member of the Sequoia Union High School District Board of Trustees, told me: “It’s hard to tell because we don’t know how many votes are outstanding. But I'm confident in my lead.”
Stay tuned for another update later this afternoon…
Honoring our veterans
Tomorrow the American Legion Post 105 Redwood City and the Redwood City Lions Club is hosting a special Veterans Day event. All residents are welcome; the activities begin in Courthouse Square at 10 a.m.
And for the first time ever, the Redwood City Improvement Association has unveiled a series of street banners honoring all six branches of the military—the Air Force, Army, Coast Guard, Marine Corps, Navy and Space Force. Check them out around the downtown area.
That’s all for now. Enjoy your Thursday!
