Hey Redwood City!
It was a WIN for the San Mateo County Sheriff's Office this week, as the Board of Supervisors on Tuesday approved a contract for the Deputy Sheriff's Association after the bargaining unit spent more than two years in negotiations with the county. Salary ranges increase all around and include deputy sheriffs, correctional officers and district attorney inspectors, all of which will receive a 10% increase. The contract term is good from 2021(the year the original contract expired) until 2026. Beginning in 2023, union employees will continue to receive salary increases yearly based on an annual survey. Employees will also receive a bonus of $2,000 for being on the payroll.
The total cost of this salary change and agreement with the DSA comes to an estimated first year net increase of $11.6 million.
The vote to approve the contract comes just a few weeks before Sheriff-elect Christina Corpus takes the helm at the sheriff's office, which has recently been rocked by its share of negative publicity. We all remember the notorious Batmobile case, in which District Attorney Stephen Wagstaffe eventually dropped all charges against the Indiana man who was accused in the case. Corpus ran on the platform that she is "A Sheriff We Can Trust."
More news to come. Have a great Wednesday!
