The Stanford Blood Center (SBC) is teaming up with the Stanford Redwood City Campus to ensure a community lifeline stays flush.
“Blood donors are essential to the health and safety of our community. You never know when you or someone you know could need blood,“ said Elisa Manzanares, SBC account manager.
The organizations are calling on all residents to consider giving blood as there is an ongoing critical need for all blood types.
Join the SBC on Jan. 10 from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. on the basketball court at 900 Warrington Ave. for a community blood drive.
As a special thank you to donors, anyone who donates at the drive will be entered to win a two-night stay at a Ritz-Carlton destination of your choice.
“In critical situations, it’s the blood that has already been donated that saves lives at a moment’s notice. That’s why we are asking our community members to step up and come out to the Stanford Redwood City Campus blood drive. In just one hour, you could donate enough blood to help multiple patients in need,” Manzanares said.
For those with type O blood — there is a special need for your donation. O-negative donors are universal donors, which means anyone can receive O-blood no matter their type. O-negative blood is often used for trauma and pediatric patients.
In preparation for their donation, donors are advised to: eat well, stay hydrated and arrive with their donor ID. First time donors or returning donors without a donor ID card should bring a valid state-issued photo ID.
Walk-in availability may be limited. Donors are encouraged to make an appointment here, via the SBC App or by calling (888) 723-7831. For additional information, click here.
