A man was arrested on suspicion of attempted homicide on Sunday after officers responded to a call about a fight, the San Mateo Police Department said on Tuesday.

Police arrived in the 400 block of South Norfolk Street in San Mateo at about 10:30 p.m. on Feb. 19 and discovered a man bleeding profusely from his left arm. Police allege that another man was standing near the victim, holding a utility knife.

The victim, who also had two minor cuts to the back of his head, suffered a six-inch laceration that was massively pouring blood, according to police.

Police allege that both men were drinking together earlier in the evening when the 51-year-old suspect suddenly attacked the victim, and they began to fight.

The suspect then allegedly brandished a knife and threatened to cut the victim's throat. The victim raised his arms to protect his neck, and his left arm was cut.

The suspect was booked into the San Mateo County Jail on suspicion of attempted homicide.
