The National Weather Service issued a series of special weather statements for much of the Bay Area on Monday morning as the latest storm system brings cold, unsettled weather to the region.

In the latest statement, winds of 40 mph, pea-sized hail and strong thunderstorms are possible on the peninsula, and parts of Santa Cruz and Santa Clara counties, forecasters said.

In addition to brief heavy rainfall, lightning is also possible around the region.

Monday will also see gusty winds through the afternoon and possible thunderstorms. Precipitation will be lighter Tuesday and Wednesday.

Drier weather is in the forecast for Thursday and Friday, with colder mornings. Light rain may return by next weekend.
