From March 3 through April 20, the Cafe Art Gallery will host a solo exhibition showcasing various California-inspired paintings and poems from a local Redwood City artist.
The exhibition, "California, I'm coming home," is a collection of artwork from Redwood City artist Karen McPhail-Bell that serves as love letters to the Golden State — specifically the Bay Area.
McPhail-Bell, originally a resident of Australia, has lived in the Bay Area for five years. The exhibition is largely inspired by the different emotions that the local artist experienced moving away from her home country to live in California, which ultimately led to her finding a deep connection with the American state, according to a news release.
According to McPhail-Bell, the art in the exhibition will reflect upon her fascination with the state's breathtaking landscapes, vibrant and diverse culture, open-mindedness and creative spirit.
McPhail-Bell adds that the goal of the art show is to inspire others to reflect and listen deeply to the physical and social environments that surround them, in addition to celebrating the happiness that can be found in the everyday lives of California residents as a result of living in the U.S. state.
Along with the ongoing exhibition, the Cafe Art Gallery will also be hosting an event where residents will have the opportunity to meet McPhail-Bell during one of her art shows.
The "meet the artist" event is scheduled to take place on March 8, from 12 p.m. to 1 p.m., on the lower floor of the Cafe Art Gallery.
