Update: Power was restored at the school, according to the district. The school will be in session on Friday.

The Redwood City School District on Thursday sent a letter to parents and staff announcing that Roy Cloud School will remain closed due to an ongoing power outage caused by downed trees and power lines following Tuesday's storm.

The power failure has made it difficult for the school to maintain a safe and productive learning environment, the district said in the letter.

The lack of electricity at Roy Cloud School has created several challenges, including no heating, an inability to use electronic devices for instructional purposes, limited visibility with only natural light, and non-functioning phone lines, according to the district.

The district said that during fire season, schools had completed school days with a few hours of power outages. Still, with PG&E estimating that this outage could last several hours, the decision was made to close the school today for the safety and well-being of students and staff.

According to the district, parents and teachers should prepare for the school to reopen on Friday.

Roy Cloud is in the Farm Hill neighborhood.
