A 21-year-old man has been indicted on charges of first-degree burglary after his involvement in a string of at least three Redwood City burglaries targeting women.
In the most recent incident, officers responded to a burglary in progress around 2:20 a.m. on March 19 in which the suspect entered a woman's home and allegedly inappropriately touched her. He then barricaded himself in the bathroom and escaped through an exterior window before officers arrived at the scene, according to the Redwood City Police Department.
A canvas of the surrounding area resulted in a surveillance video that assisted in identifying the suspect as Cristian Josue CanelSian and linked him to three previous incidents of similar burglaries targeting women. In all other instances, police said CanelSian was able to flee the scene before officers arrived. Police said that most of the crimes took place place on the 1200-1300 block of Ebener.
CanelSian was booked into Maguire Correctional Facility on March 23 on charges of "first-degree burglary, touching a person intimately against their will for sexual arousal, and disorderly conduct," according to police.
The Redwood City Police Department is seeking public assistance in identifying additional victims of unlawful sexual contact or any other crimes committed by Cristian Josue CanelSian. If you have any information regarding this subject, please contact Detective James Schneider at 650-780-7607.
