Former California Surgeon General and renowned physician, researcher, and public health leader, Dr. Nadine Burke Harris, is set to headline HIP Housing's 2023 Annual Luncheon fundraiser.

The event will take place on Friday, May 5th, at the Grand Bay Hotel San Francisco in Redwood City from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.

Burke Harris is celebrated for her groundbreaking work on Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs), having established the terminology and screening tools for the phenomenon. She has been instrumental in developing trauma-informed prevention and response resources related to ACEs. HIP Housing, a pioneer in integrating trauma-informed care into social service programs in San Mateo County, marked its 50th anniversary in 2022.

Jackie Speier, former U.S. Representative for California's 14th congressional district and a dedicated supporter of HIP Housing, will serve as Master of Ceremonies. Speier will guide attendees through an inspiring program showcasing organizational updates and powerful storytelling. The organization aims to raise $235,000 from the Annual Luncheon to support its affordable housing programs.

HIP Housing's Executive Director, Kate Comfort Harr, expressed her excitement to have Burke Harris on board in a statement.

"Her work has been inspirational to HIP Housing and has influenced us immensely with integrating trauma-informed care practices into all our critical housing work." Harr also emphasized the need to address the root causes of housing insecurity, such as trauma, mental health, and personal well-being.
