Good morning, Redwood City! There's a lot of buzz around local art and history this week.

"Mi Hogar, Mi Amor, Mi Vida" (My Home, My Love, My Life) is the latest installation at the Art Kiosk on Courthouse Square. It's comprised of two striking 7' by 8' oil paintings that capture the essence of Redwood City as seen through the eyes of Redwood City native, Eric Lopez. The paintings stand as an ode to the city's past and a hopeful gaze into its future. His art attempts to capture these collective memories, immortalizing the city's transformation over time. The exhibit will be on display at the Art Kiosk, which is curated by Lance M. Fung and located at 2208 Broadway St. in Redwood City, through June 18.

While you're at Courthouse Square, make sure to stop by the San Mateo County History Museum, located at  the “old” county courthouse at 2200 Broadway in Redwood City.

This Saturday, the museum will host author Gene Slater who will discuss his book, Freedom to Discriminate: How Realtors Conspired to Segregate Housing and Divide America at 1 p.m. Slater’s study begins with the professionalization of the real estate industry in the early 1900s and works through the Civil Rights era of the 1960’s. Slater has served as a senior adviser on housing for federal, state, and local agencies for over 40 years. In the aftermath of the financial crisis in 2009, he helped design the program by which the United States Treasury financed homes for 110,000 first time buyers. The presentation is free with the price of admission: $4 for seniors and students, $6 for adults.

There's a notable new exhibit at the museum:

"College of San Mateo: 100 Years of Making Dreams Come Through" is currently showing. It's an exhibit that explores the history of the college, how it has served the community, and the various services it has provided to students over the last 100 years. The exhibit includes photographs, videos, publications, artifacts from both the college’s and the Historical Association’s collections and memorabilia saved by alumni and their families.

And, if you're feeling inspired to create some art of your own, you can stop by the Redwood City Library to participate in its Art Salon, happening today at 3 p.m. Drop-in the library's makerspace freehand sketching and drawing session with charcoal, graphite, colored pencils, inks and pastels. All ages and all abilities are welcome! If you can't make it out today, there will be another session on May 30 at 3 p.m.

Thank you, Davena Gentry for today's photo! It was shot after the drone show at the Redwood City Port on May 6. Send me an email if you'd like to have your photo featured in the newsletter or if there's something happening around town you'd like the Pulse to know about.

Don't forget to read the headlines below!
