After six years working as city clerk with Redwood City, Pamela Aguilar, who many staff considered the “face of City Hall,” is set to set retire this year.
At Monday night’s city council meeting, a special proclamation was presented to Aguilar to pay respect to her years of service and celebrate her retirement.
“It’s been my honor to serve as Redwood city clerk for the last six years,” Aguilar said. “Such great work has been achieved here, and I know that it’s going to continue.”
Mayor Jeff Gee expressed his gratitude for Aguilar and her work for the city as well.
“Pam has been a great asset to the City,” Gee told the Pulse. “As the city clerk, she is often the “face of City Hall” to the community when they are asking for help, looking for information or asking to meet with a Councilmember. On behalf of the Council, I want to thank Pam for her service to our community and to the City, and I wish her well.”
At Monday night’s council meeting, Aguilar thanked Gee and Council members Alicia Aguirre and Diane Howard for the opportunity to serve, as well as her team.
“To my city clerk team, you are truly the best team I’ve ever had the pleasure of working with,” Aguilar said. “Thank you for all of your support.”
In 2017, Aguilar became city clerk, a role that bridges the gap between community and city government. Aguilar was previously the city clerk in Menlo Park before she came to Redwood City.
“We are happy for Pamela on her well-deserved retirement,” City Manager Melissa Stevenson Diaz said. “She has helped deepen community connections to City government as she managed elections, supported city boards, commissions and committees, and facilitated city council meetings. We appreciate her commitment, passion and professionalism in this key role.”
At the city council meeting, Aguilar said her post-retirement plans include traveling around the world and maybe even sending a postcard or two back to her colleagues in Redwood City.
“I wish the Redwood City community all the best,” Aguilar said. “You’re in the best hands with this Council and with this staff. I thank you for letting me serve as your city clerk.”
