As per a press released issued by Lieutenant Nick Perna, investigations division commander of the Redwood City Police Department, an assault occurred at Spinas Park in Redwood City, on August 8, at around 7:45 pm.

The suspect, says the press release, threw the victim onto the hood of a vehicle, held him down by his throat and punched him repeatedly in the face. The victim sustained injuries to his head and had to be treated at Kaiser Hospital.
 
The suspect has been identified as Jose Guadalupe Naranjo, a 48-year-old resident of Redwood City.

An off-duty member of the Redwood City Police Department spotted Naranjo in a local coffee shop and took him into custody. Naranjo was booked into the San Mateo County Jail. He has been charged with assault with a deadly weapon, which is a felony.
