The Kids & Art Foundation, a non-profit organization founded by Purvi Shah in 2008, is celebrating its 15th anniversary this September. The Bay Area organization has announced a series of events aimed at delivering more art-making experiences and joy to thousands of children facing cancer across the nation.
On Sunday, September 17, the Kids & Art Foundation will be at Redwood City’s Red Morton Park hosting their inaugural Art Heals Day, which is a day of recognition and celebration of the healing impact of art and creativity. The free event will take place from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. The event will be a community-wide celebration of the healing power of immersive art.
Art Heals Day will take place annually on the third Sunday of September each year going forward. Everyone is encouraged to share all forms of art-making, from anywhere, via social media, using the #ArtHealsDay hashtag.
The Kids & Art Foundation is also proud to announce their new Visionary Award. This year's award is given to the New York Times bestselling authors of “Your Brain on Art,” Google’s Ivy Ross and Johns Hopkins’ Susan Magsamen for their groundbreaking book and work with NeuroArts Blueprint. Their work calls for the integration of the arts with science and technology.
Lastly, in celebration of the organization's 15th anniversary supporters are encouraged to donate to the Kids & Art Foundation during Childhood Cancer Awareness Month – September, which is the month Purvi Shah lost her son Amaey to cancer. This foundation is her way of celebrating his life and honoring his memory.
