Getting your Trinity Audio player ready...

Hello Redwood City,

While putting this newsletter together, part of my brain is trying to work out how exactly you will go about reading the news it carries. I've been thinking about this every day, actually. Will you pick and choose stories based on your interest areas? Wildlife – yes. Health – maybe. Art – no way. That sort of thing sounds fairly logical. Or will you read the story I've specifically referenced in my note first and then move on to the rest? Does the photo of the day have anything to do with your choices?

Or will you read whatever you can in a fixed amount of time – as long as your morning cuppa is in your hand, perhaps – and then get on with other things? Or do you read just one story a day? The top story, maybe. Or something else entirely. It's fascinating, really.

Well, my dream reader is what I like to call 'the newsletter completist'. This person reads it all.

Today's Express has a lot of variety. Our top story is about a legal matter that's been underway for many months now. There's a story about an interesting update on an old murder case. Then there's news about a hate crime and two cases of harassment on the streets. I know, it was upsetting at our end too. I was almost relieved when news about a brush fire came in last afternoon.

Lots more where this came from. Dig in, while I wonder how you navigate.

Ashwini Gangal, filling in for Michelle.
