Tanisha Werner has been announced as Redwood City’s new director of engineering and transportation by City Manager Melissa Stevenson Diaz and will take office on July 15.
In this position, Werner will oversee land use and development functions, including land development, engineering, and transportation, and will have functional responsibility for the City’s capital improvement program, which covers utilities, civic projects, and construction inspections.

“We look forward to her leadership in advancing our city’s infrastructure and transportation initiatives,” Diaz said in a press release.
Werner is a licensed professional engineer with a municipal engineering background and over 18 years of progressively responsible experience in civil engineering.
“I am honored to have the opportunity to lead the engineering and transportation department in Redwood City,” Werner said in a press release. “I am committed to leveraging my experience to enhance our city’s infrastructure and to work collaboratively with our community to achieve our goals.”
Her starting salary is $250,000.
Werner’s public service career began as an assistant engineer in Redwood City, managing roadway resurfacing programs and capital improvements.
She has a master’s degree in public administration from San Jose State University and a bachelor’s degree in science in civil engineering from Fresno State University.
Werner focuses on infrastructure projects that benefit the public, having served as the deputy director of infrastructure at SamTrans with tenure.
There, she managed the design and construction of critical infrastructure for the transition to zero emissions.
Before this, Werner was the assistant public works director/city engineer at the city of Menlo Park, where she oversaw a $100 million CIP and led a team responsible for private development review and utility sections.
