Thirteen Kaiser Permanente Northern California hospitals, including the one in Redwood City, have been named among America’s Best Maternity Hospitals 2024 by Newsweek, according to a news release by the hospital giant.
The honored hospitals were noted for their adherence to rigorous standards in maternity care, including low rates of elective early deliveries and stringent safety protocols, the release said. Last year, these hospitals collectively delivered 40,566 babies.
Kaiser Permanente Northern California President Carrie Owen Plietz said the labor and delivery teams strive to provide top-notch care that ensures a healthy beginning for new families. She said they are dedicated to offering equitable and culturally sensitive services.
This year, only 404 hospitals nationwide received this designation, with over 64 in California. Kaiser Permanente, with 29 hospitals on the list, leads the nation in the number of recognized facilities.
Maria Ansari, MD, CEO of The Permanente Medical Group, said comprehensive maternity care is crucial. She said their physician-led teams offer expert and compassionate support throughout pregnancy, emphasizing that maintaining a healthy pregnancy is essential for the well-being of both mother and child.
Kaiser Permanente’s prenatal care program focuses on reducing complications by understanding patients’ health histories and tailoring care for those with high-risk pregnancies or chronic conditions. The hospitals also offer personalized birthing plans and mental health support, including screenings for prenatal and postpartum depression.
