Today, a group of concerned Redwood City community leaders will be in-attendance at City Hall to hear out the city council’s response to the ongoing housing crisis impacting low-income residents.
The group, collectively called Faith in Action Bay Area, consists of local immigrant leaders who have been developing solutions to housing issues that have been affecting low-income citizens throughout Redwood City.
Among the issues the group cites are problems like mold and roaches, intimidation and harassment, loophole evictions through renovations, as well as a lack of recourse when residents’ rights are violated, to name a few.
According to Faith in Action Bay Area, local residents have spent the past two years presenting evidence of these housing problems to the city council, but have not been met with a single ordinance to address the issues.
Additionally, Redwood City community leaders have put together a policy platform and also wrote their own draft ordinance, but these have not been taken into consideration from the council, according to the group.
Prior to the start of the city council meeting, Faith in Action Bay Area says that it will be holding an outdoor rally, followed by a prayer circle inside of City Hall.
The city council meeting is scheduled to begin at 6:30 p.m. today (Aug. 28, 2023) in the Council Chambers of City Hall — 1017 Middlefield Road, Redwood City, CA 94063.
