Want to spot jackrabbits, quails and a blue butterfly? How about a cream cups, blue-eyed grass, miniature lupines and other varieties? According to latest park survey posted on Friends of Edgewood’s website from March 13, you might have a chance to see them all while taking a free, 3-mile hiking tours of wildflowers at Edgewood Park and Natural Preserve in Redwood City this spring.
The next hike, led by one of Friends of Edgewood, is Friday, March 22, from 9 a.m. to noon, and is both adult and kid-friendly. Hikers meet at 10 Old Stage Coach Road in Redwood City. There is also an afternoon hike on the same day from 2-5 p.m., which meets at the Clarkia Trailhead on Cañada Road.
The March 13 survey notes that some 47 species of flowers were counted in the park. Each week park docents hike the preserve and track what’s in bloom, according to the website, and publish a wildflower survey.
Head across the street to Pulgas Ridge Open Space Preserve and check out other flowers in bloom.
