Since its inception, The Six Fifth Peninsula Photo Contest has received thousands of submissions and recognized dozens of photographers who live, work or attend school in the 650 area code.

Our judges award photos across six categories: abstract, travel, landscapes, moments, wildlife and portraits. There are divisions for adults and youth, with monetary prizes for each category — $200 for adults, $100 for youth and $500 for the overall best in show. Winning photos will also be featured in an exhibit at the Palo Alto Art Center.

Photos must be original works created by the entrant and taken no earlier than Jan. 1, 2021. Submissions are due through our website peninsulacontest2026.artcall.org by 11:59 p.m. on July 3.

Peninsula photographers of all ages and skill levels who live, work or attend school within the 650 area code are invited to submit entries for six different visual categories now through July 3.

Pub in the Park: May 30 Redwood City’s annual series featuring outdoor acoustic music, lawn games and an inflatable pub serving brews returns to the park. The kickoff event features local bluegrass group The Straggylrs.  

Launch Into Pride: May 30 The Local Spot will host a night of cookie decorating, a live DJ, craft making, food and drinks to kick off Pride Month. The event doubles as a fundraiser for the San Mateo County Pride Center.

Blue Moon on Black Mountain: May 31 Hike a Peninsula peak at twilight with Midpeninsula Regional Open Space District docent naturalists and check out views of the Santa Clara Valley and Santa Cruz Mountains while the second full moon of the month rises.

Citrine Collective Market: June 4 Palo Alto’s Hotel Citrine hosts a market of eco-conscious vendors offering artisan products alongside live music and happy hour specials. 

San Mateo County Fair: June 5-14 Carnival rides and games, all kinds of favorite fair food, livestock, exhibits, concerts and more are back for the annual county fair. 

Feldman’s 30th Birthday Party: June 5 Feldman’s Books in Menlo Park is marking its 30th birthday with a community celebration featuring dancing and reminiscing. 

Beginning Bird Photography: June 6 Learn tips for photographing birds on a guided walk hosted by San Mateo Bird Alliance at Coyote Point, including help with camera settings. Recommended equipment: a telephoto lens and a tripod. 

Sunnyvale Art & Wine Festival: June 6-7 Celebrating five decades of music, art and food in downtown Sunnyvale, this year’s festival features hundreds of artists, many food trucks and live bands and musicians all weekend, including Barn Owls, Rosebud and many more.

Community Day and Posy Parade: June 7 The city of San Bruno’s annual outdoor celebration includes the Posy Parade, food trucks, live music, open swim sessions, kids’ activities and more.

Jake Shimabukuro: June 12 The ukulele master, who plays everything from traditional Hawaiian music to pop, rock, blues and classical, comes to Menlo Park. 

Biggest Little Air Show: June 13 Watch realistic remote-controlled model aircraft take to the skies as well as a US Coast Guard search-and-rescue demonstration and performances by the Suhkoi West Demo Team.

Dana Carvey and David Spade: June 14 The comedy icons, podcast co-hosts and “SNL” veterans team up and make a tour stop at the Mountain Winery.

Menlo Park’s Juneteenth Celebration: June 19 Live music and dance, family activities, free treats and vendors will all be part of a Juneteenth celebration, commemorating the ending of slavery in the U.S., at the Belle Haven Community Campus. 

FoggyCon 2026: June 20 Daly City hosts its inaugural event devoted to gaming and collectibles with TCG tournaments, trading cards, vintage toys, sports memorabilia and more.

Bark n’ Brewfest: June 27 Taste beers and wines and meet adoptable animals at the Peninsula Humane Society’s annual fundraiser at West Washington Park in Burlingame. Well-behaved dogs on leash are welcome.

Summer Swap: June 28 RethinkWaste hosts a swap with gently used summer gear. All donated items must be in good or fair condition.
