March 13, 1929 – December 31, 2022

Born in Redwood City to Lillian and Frank Martinez. She met the love of her life, Peter Carini, who was stationed at the Port of Redwood City, serving in the U.S. Navy during World War II.

They were married at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church and were members of the parish for decades. Together they created a family and had eleven children. Joe (Karen), Tina (Mike), Frank (Darcy), Pete (Lourdes), Barbara, Deceased (Jesse), Gina (Rick), Mary (Jack), Larry, Tony-Deceased, Patricia, Giovanni (Kathy).

She is survived by 71 Grand, Great-Grand, and Great-Great Grandchildren.

She was more than just a wonderful mother to eleven, but a caretaker for her own siblings. She embodied a motherly role in the family when her mother had to enter the workforce after her father’s untimely death. She cared for many nieces, nephews, and grandchildren. Later, she joined Carini’s Sons and Daughters Towing and Feed and Pet Store office staff.

Frances was known for her excellent baking skills. Everyone enjoyed her baked goods, especially the bread and decorated cakes. Her specialty was decorating cakes. She made outstanding wedding cakes for her family and friends over the years.

Everyone was welcomed into her house with open arms. Thanksgiving dinners always included family members and people who did not have a place to go. She became everyone’s favorite “Mama .” Her house was the place to be for every family gathering. Our biggest family gathering was always Christmas Eve, and she would welcome about a hundred friends and family members into her home. We would all sing, open presents, and of course, eat together.

Frances was also the biggest fan of the San Francisco Giants. No matter what, the game was always on.

Her real claim to fame was the matriarch to such a big family. Her love for her family was the driving force behind everything she did. She loved her children and had a special place in her heart for all of her grandchildren. She knew all their names and even had them on a charm bracelet. She made all of her kids feel so loved and special. Frances’s patience for all the kids was astounding, but she always knew how to keep her kids in line.

One of the most important attributes of Frances was that she was a woman of faith. By example, she taught all her kids the importance of being faithful to God and expressing God’s love in her actions.

Funeral Mass will be celebrated at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church 300 Fulton St. Redwood City, Tuesday January 10, 2023, 11am, Viewing at 9:30am, Rosary at 10:15am.
