October 19, 1960 – July 23, 2023

It is with the heaviest of hearts that we announce the passing of Brent Thompson, beloved life partner of Kathleen (Kathy) Renal, son of Sally Thompson, and brother of Dr. Brad Thompson. Brent was 62. Brent was born on October 19, 1960 to parents James Thompson and Sally Thompson. Brent was a lifelong resident of Redwood City – he was born at Sequoia Hospital and graduated from Sequoia High School.

He continued his education at College of San Mateo. Brent was an avid sports fan who enjoyed cheering on his favorite teams such as the Golden State Warriors, San Francisco 49ers, San Francisco Giants, Boston Celtics, and many more. He also enjoyed tennis tournaments like the US Open and Wimbledon. And of course he liked working on his cars and his truck.

Brent was a devoted life partner to Kathy. They shared a passion for each other, the beach, music, The Lanai, and the many cats they had over through the years. Another passion was working on their home, constantly updating. Lake Tahoe was a favorite spot for both Brent and Kathy – especially Emerald Bay.

Our dear Brent will be remembered for his kind-heartedness – which drove him to work tirelessly and generously on a volunteer basis with the Nine Lives Foundation to rescue feral cats in Redwood City. He and Kathy owned many cats during their time together. They worked with Nine Lives to feed, spay/neuter, and re-release or house the cats at Nine Lives for adoption.

Brent had the absolute best smile and laugh, which will be remembered by everyone who knew and loved him. He enjoyed nurturing Bonsai trees – a craft learned from his father – and had a collection of them at his home in Redwood City.

Brent is survived by his mother Sally Thompson and his brother Dr. Brad Thompson. He was preceded in death by his father James Thompson. He will be truly missed by Kathy, their current cat Booker, his family, and so many friends.

A Celebration of Life for Brent will be held at 12:00 pm on Friday, September 8, 2023 at Menlo Park Presbyterian Church, 950 Santa Cruz Ave, Menlo Park, CA 94025. Reception to follow. The Celebration of Life will be presided by Pastor Troy Goode. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to the Nine Lives Foundation in loving memory of our dear Brent.
