Bay Area author Stacey Lee’s two-part middle-grade Winston Chu series is set in and around San Francisco, bringing some magic to the City by the Bay with adventures inspired by Chinese mythology.

Lee will be on hand Feb. 6 at Books Inc. Palo Alto to celebrate the launch of her second and final book in the series, “Rick Riordan Presents Winston Chu vs. The Wingmeisters.”

Middle-schooler Winston and his friends must unravel all the strange things happening around Mr. Gu, San Francisco’s leading candidate for mayor. His charisma is such that grownups around the city no longer seem remember their own identities, but still are eager to cast a vote for Mr. Gu. Then there are the flocks of rare birds that have suddenly appeared throughout the city, and the mysterious fog that seems to shroud Mr. Gu’s trips to an island in the bay. To Winston’s surprise, a previous nemesis may be able to lend a hand in taking on this new foe.

Lee is a bestselling author of young adult fiction, including “The Downstairs Girl” and “Luck of the Titanic” and is a founder of the We Need Diverse Books movement, according to her website.

She appears at Books Inc. Palo Alto in conversation with fellow Rick Riordan Presents author Lori M. Lee.

Stacey Lee appears Feb. 6, 6 p.m. at Books Inc. Palo Alto, 855 El Camino Real #74, Palo Alto.booksinc.net
