Three families were displaced Tuesday morning when a fire erupted in a home near a 6-unit apartment complex, according to Redwood City Fire officials. The fire then spread to three other homes.

No families, firefighters or officers were injured Tuesday, according to Marta Barker, Redwood City deputy fire chief.

The cause of the fire is unknown and is under investigation, Barker said.

The fire began around 11:45 a.m. and was upgraded to a 3-alarm fire. By 2 p.m., firefighters were still on the scene attempting to put it out.

“We’re still looking for hot spots and making sure we haven’t missed anything,” Barker said.

San Mateo County Animal Rescue and Control were also on scene to assess the area to ensure that no animals were harmed during Tuesday’s fire.

Redwood City firefighters received help from Menlo Park Fire, Woodside Fire, San Mateo County Fire, San Mateo County Consolidated, PG&E and the American Red Cross.

Editor’s Note: A previous version of this story incorrectly stated the name and address of the homes that initially caught fire. The fire was on Poplar Avenue. Firefighters also put out fires in units at the Twin Palms apartment complex, which is located on Redwood Avenue.

  1. The fire started at a building on the 300 block of Poplar Ave. The Twin Palms apartment complex is on Redwood Ave so is NOT the correct building. The picture is misleading. Please correct this as it may impact services to those who were actually displaced.
