Two men were arrested after allegedly attacking a man in a Redwood City parking lot earlier this week and then fleeing from officers who responded, police said.
At about 5:25 p.m. Tuesday, Redwood City police were dispatched to the 1400 block of Ebener Street for reports that four to five people were assaulting someone in a parking lot and possibly stabbing him.
As officers arrived, they saw a van leaving the area while bystanders pointed to it as being a vehicle involved in the alleged attack. Officers followed the van as it went east on Woodside Road and the driver failed to yield to emergency lights and sirens, according to police.
The van then turned onto Hudson Street and struck a parked car. The driver, later identified as a 47-year-old man, tried to flee on foot but was captured a short distance away, police said.
The front seat passenger was 36 and allegedly refused to exit the vehicle or cooperate with officers, who used a police K-9 that bit him on the arm and allowed the officers to take him into custody.
Police said a third suspect allegedly exited the van before they arrived and has not been found.
Police located the victim of the alleged attack, a 20-year-old man who was uninjured but did not cooperate with officers.
Investigators found surveillance footage from a nearby apartment complex that showed the suspects allegedly chasing the victim while armed with what appeared to be long, sharp objects, police said.
The 47-year-old was booked into San Mateo County Jail on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon, evading police, conspiracy, resisting arrest, hit-and-run, and violating his parole. The 36-year-old was booked on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon, resisting arrest, conspiracy, and parole violation.
