The Redwood Shores Branch Library released a survey allowing community members to decide between two conceptual designs and amenities for the playground to inform developers of community opinion.

“The Redwood Shores Branch Library Playground will be designed to develop an accessible play area reflective of the natural surroundings and community values,” the Library Division Manager for Redwood City Public Library Elizabeth Meeks said. “The proposed project will add to the community experience and offer play opportunities for those at the library, using the trail system and enjoying the nature of Belmont Slough.”

The construction of the project is partially funded. According to the Redwood City Parks website, once a preferred concept is developed, the city will seek additional funding.

Once the design choice is finalized by the designers, pending September, the planning will move forward to the public process through city approval.

As part of the planning process, community outreach meetings were held in January, February, and April of 2024 to give community members a chance to learn about the general concept of the plan, gain insight into the community process and timeline, vote on playground features, and ask questions and share ideas with staff and project managers.

There was also a survey conducted in May of 2024 that focused on the play area amenities and features that Meeks Noted were most important to families.

The two design renderings from the most recent survey were made available at a public outreach session on June 25 at the Redwood Shores Branch Library. Attendees could ask questions, provide feedback, and vote on some of their favorite features.

Currently, there is no timeframe for construction or completion of the project.

“As we continue to work through the process a more definitive timeframe will be established,” Meeks said.
