Redwood City police say they have made an arrest following a string of downtown vandalism reports last week.

On July 12 and July 13, Redwood City Police responded to reports of vandalism from businesses in the downtown area. There were reports of damage to storefront windows, and several provided surveillance footage showing a suspect carving the letter “R” into the glass. Police say thee marking was later determined to be the initial of the suspect’s name.

Shortly after noon on July 17, officers were flagged down by one of the victims, who pointed out the suspect in the downtown area. Officers contacted the man and conducted a follow-up investigation, according to an email sent to residents. Authorities say surveillance footage collected from the affected businesses helped link the man to the crimes. In total, 14 businesses in downtown Redwood City sustained damage.

The man was arrested without incident. Police say that, in addition to seeking felony vandalism charges, he has an outstanding warrant. In keeping with policy, the Redwood City Pulse does not normally name suspects until they have been formally charged.

This case remains under investigation. Anyone with additional information is encouraged to contact Sgt. Figueroa at (650) 780-7621.
