Redwood City will welcome a new director of Parks, Recreation and Community Services on Aug. 11.
City Manager Melissa Stevenson Diaz has announced the appointment of Tiarra Warner in a press release on Tuesday, July 15. Warner, the city of Rohnert Park’s recreation manager, has over 15 years of experience in municipal recreation and community services.
“Tiarra’s passion for community-building, combined with her deep experience across cities of all sizes, makes her an exceptional addition to Redwood City,” said Stevenson Diaz in a prepared statement. “We are thrilled to welcome her and excited for the future of our parks and community services under her leadership.”
She will oversee the city’s more than 30 parks and open spaces, as well as multiple community centers and other programming. Her tasks will include helping open the city’s new senior center later this year. Her starting base salary is $248,250 annually, according to Deputy City Manager Jennifer Yamaguma.
Warner replaces Derek Wolfgram, who has served as interim Parks, Recreation, and Community Services director since April 2024. He stepped into the role when Chris Beth retired after over 25 years with the city. Wolfgram will return his previous role as the city’s library director.
Warner formerly served in an interim capacity as acting director of community services for Rohnert Park. She has also worked for the cities of Beverly Hills, West Hollywood, Signal Hill and Long Beach. She has overseen youth sports, senior services, large-scale community events and inclusive recreation initiatives.
“I’m honored to join a city so deeply committed to equity, innovation and community engagement,” Warner said in a prepared statement. “Redwood City’s values align with my own, and I look forward to working with staff, residents and community partners to build on the department’s incredible foundation.”
Warner holds a bachelor’s in business administration and a master’s in recreation administration from California State University, Long Beach. She serves as chair of the California Park and Recreation Society’s JEDI (Justice, Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion) Counsel.
