The man killed in the U.S. Highway 101 crash last week has been identified as Redwood City resident Suryanshu Gehlot, according to the Santa Clara County Medical Examiner-Coroner’s Office.
The incident occurred on northbound U.S. Highway 101, north of the San Antonio Road on-ramp in Palo Alto on Friday, May 31 before 3:00 a.m.
According to the California Highway Patrol collision report, Gehlot, driving a red Hyundai SUV, was hit by two other drivers.
Gehlot called the authorities after hitting a pole, which damaged the vehicle. He then evacuated the Hyundai for unknown reasons. Gerlot died at the scene, according to authorities.
The Hyundai was then hit in the car’s rear by a Silver Scion, pushing the Hyundai in a northeasterly direction. A yellow Freightliner, attempting to avoid the two vehicles, drove between the two and hit them, according to CHP.
“It is unknown if the driver sustained any other injuries from the crash where they hit the pole versus outside the vehicle,” CHP Officer Sophie Lu said.
The drivers of the other two vehicles were unharmed.
