A Redwood City woman died in a motorcycle crash Thursday, Aug. 20, on southbound U.S. Highway 101 in East Palo Alto, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The motorcyclist was identified as 38-year-old Irma Elizabeth Oxlaj by the San Mateo County Coroner’s Office. Oxlaj died at the scene.
The crash was reported shortly after 6 a.m. on southbound Highway 101 near the University Avenue on-ramp, according to CHP Redwood City.
According to investigators, a motorist struck Oxlaj on her motorcycle as she was traveling in the #4 lane. The motorist fled the scene to Cutler in Tulare County, according to CHP. According to investigators, officers found a license plate belonging to the motorist’s vehicle, which was used to identify an 18-year-old.
He was arrested and booked into jail on suspicion of felony hit-and-run
and of vehicular manslaughter, investigators said.
Investigators have not determined whether drugs or alcohol contributed to the crash. The investigation is ongoing.
