The Redwood City Improvement Association, in partnership with Fung Collaboratives, has revealed its newest public art installation, Solarium, by visual artist John Roloff.

Now on display at the Art Kiosk in Courthouse Square, the installation transforms the space into a glowing, sound-responsive environment that explores the intersection of light, sound, and material.
Inspired by the Art Kiosk’s glass structure, Roloff reimagined it as a hybrid of a greenhouse and art vitrine. At the center of the installation is a radiant, LED-equipped orb designed to evoke both celestial and subatomic imagery. The dynamic interplay of programmed light and sound creates a space for experimental discovery and unexpected poetic interactions.
Solarium is on view daily at the Art Kiosk (2208 Broadway St.) through Jan. 5, 2025. This installation is part of Redwood City’s ongoing efforts to enhance its fine art scene for residents and visitors alike.
