Though spring might be the time when doing good for the planet is most often highlighted, autumn — and the harvest festivals it brings — seems like a perfect season to celebrate our appreciation for the Earth. To that end, for its October edition, 3rdThursday takes the theme of “Sustainability Fun Fair,” offering live music up and down California Avenue, along with green activities, crafts, food tastings and a photo booth.
Palo Alto’s monthly free live music event has teamed up with Bike Palo Alto, Canopy, City of Palo Alto Office of Sustainability, City of Palo Utilities & Zero Waste, City of Palo Alto Library, Earthcapades, Sustainable Stanford, 350SV and Urban Village Farmer’s Market to offer visitors a way to learn more about sustainability while enjoying all that California Avenue and local musicians have to offer.
This month’s music lineup features Past Curfew playing rock favorites from the ’60s through today; The Song Gardeners performing original music with a New Age pop vibe; and Crossing Dana playing rock, contemporary and rhythm & blues.
As usual, some area restaurants and merchants offer extended hours and specials during the event.

Oct. 17, 6-9 p.m. along California Avenue, Palo Alto. 3rdthursday.fun.
